About the training
In June 2025 the SCALE Doctoral Candidates gave their feedback on the scientific and soft skills training sessions provided by the consortium up to that date.
“I’ve really enjoyed all the seminars—both technical and non-technical. While the optimization-focused sessions were not relevant to my project and were therefore less interesting to me, I appreciated the overall variety.”
Udit, DC1/KTH
“Both the technology and soft skills seminars were intriguing. Especially the communication and presentation skills training provided valuable insights on the structure of a scientific presentation that I’ll carry forward in my professional life.”
Othonas, DC2 (OVGU)
“I found the training activities highly informative and valuable. Engaging with professionals in the field and participating in courses focused on both professional and soft skills improved my personal competencies. I feel more aware of effective time management, and I have improved my communication and presentation skills”
Giovanni, DC3/AVL
“The communication and presentation skills training was well-paced with concepts presented clearly and effectively. The timely delivery of this workshop as well as the hands-on approach made the experience more interesting than I had anticipated. The time-management session, while slightly too long, offered relatable and easy-to-understand concepts. I also really enjoyed the AIFLUIDs Symposium—it was great to see a connection forming between fluid dynamics and AI, two fields that have only recently started to blend.”
Hugo, DC4/OVGU
“I found all the technical seminars very clear and helpful. The lecturers did a great job explaining both the theory and practical applications. I also enjoyed AIFLUIDs—it was a well-organized conference that covered the full range of AI in CFD research. It gave me valuable insight into new trends and was an excellent opportunity for scientific exchange.”
Jiayang, DC5/TUM
“The lectures really inspired me, especially the parts about how AI can improve CFD by making it faster and more accurate. I found the comparison between simulation-based design and traditional methods very clear and helpful, backed up by real examples from Rolls-Royce on internal aerodynamics and McLaren on external aerodynamics. I was also impressed by how environmental issues were addressed through practical examples. The in-house tools and test cases gave me some great ideas that I’m excited to use in my own project.”
Fabio, DC6/NTUA
“The communication and presentation skills training was especially valuable to me, as it made me realize that having strong scientific content is not enough; it’s equally important to deliver a clear, well-structured message that aligns with the presentation’s objectives.”
Joel, DC7/TUD
“The time management and presentation skills training were really helpful. Learning to prioritize tasks helped me focus better on important work. I also picked up great tips on engaging an audience—especially how slide animations can make a big difference.”
Letian, DC8/TUM
“The Time Management course (25 November 2024) introduced me to the TimeTimer—a simple yet effective tool that has improved my focus without exhausting me. His Writing for the PhD session (12 February 2025) also helped me make my writing clearer and easier to understand.”
Sankalp, DC9/TUD
“The AIFLUIDs conference, the communication and presentation skills sessions, and the lectures on Machine Learning in CFD gave me valuable insights that directly support my PhD work.”
Javad, DC10/NTUA
“Personally, I really liked the mix of technical talks (like the optimization methods we covered at Delft) and practical skills (such as time management). I feel this combination is very useful for my development as a researcher. But what I enjoyed most was hearing from industry professionals who showed us how our research truly matters in the real world—especially the talks from McLaren and Rolls-Royce.”
Miguel, DC11/CITY
“The AIFLUIDs conference was an excellent experience; very inspiring sessions and a great chance to explore how AI is being integrated into fluid dynamics research. The SCALE training overall has been super helpful in shaping my research direction and building essential skills!”
Elnaz, DC12/CITY
